How to Make Amazing Sliders – Every Time

Sliders are one of my favorite ‘back pocket’ recipes to use for a busy weeknight dinner. They’re an easy + one pan + 30 minute meal that easily satisfies any palette.

Sliders can be super simple or glammed up depending on your taste preferences & energy level. I’ve included the recipe for my current favorite below.

Before we get to that though, let’s go over how to build the Perfect Slider. There is a simple formula to follow that will make creating your own incredible easy…

Essential Ingredients & Instructions for Sliders:

  • 1 Package of Hawaiian Rolls
  • 8-16 oz of Deli Sliced Meat
  • 6-12 Slices of Cheese
  • 2 Tablespoons of Butter, melted
  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Slice the rolls horizontally to separate the tops from the bottoms. Place the bottoms (cut side up) in a greased 9 x 13 baking dish.
  3. Layer your meat & cheese evenly. Flip the tops of the rolls onto the cheese, cut side down.
  4. Brush the melted butter all over the tops before covering with tin foil. Bake for 12 minutes.
  5. Enjoy immediately!

Here are the extras you could try:

  • Add a sauce or spread on the underside of the tops before flipping into the pan. Could be as simple as plain Mayonnaise or mustard – or you could take a few minutes to whip up a homemade sauce to compliment your meat & cheese combo. Consider one of these Three Essential Sauces: Honey Mustard, Jamaican Jerk Mayo, or Kickin’ Campfire Sauce.
  • Add fresh or pickled produce to compliment the meat & cheese. In the Ham & Swiss version below, there is a thinly sliced apple that adds some light crunch. For Roast Beef you could add green bell pepper & red onion. Or banana peppers with turkey & pepperjack.
  • Add some herbs & spices to the melted butter that you spread on top. My go to combo is garlic powder with dried oregano. Those two seem to go with everything. I’ve also seen some recipes that call for a dry onion soup mix to mix in with the melted butter. Or some ranch seasoning from a packet. Try whatever you have on hand!

Experiment to find your favorite combinations! There are so many variations to try, beyond the sliced deli meat options too … check out these Mini Big Mac Cheeseburgers from the Tipsy Housewife or these Chicken Parmesan Sliders I threw together on a whim.

And, please, tell me all about how it goes! I really appreciate all of your feedback & I love seeing your creations! Tag This & That on Instagram or Facebook, or leave a comment below. Don’t forget to take a quick pic of your masterpiece & share it with me!

  • 9 oz Ham
  • 11 Slices Swiss Cheese
  • 1 medium Apple cored & thinly sliced in circles

Chipotle Mayo

  • 1/2 c Mayonnaise
  • 1-2 Chipotle Peppers
  • 1-2 t Adobo Sauce
  • 1 t Garlic Powder

Topping

  • 2 T Butter
  • 1/2 t Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 t Oregano dried

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375. Prepare a 9×13″ baking dish with non-stick spray or grease with butter.
  • Using an immersion blender, combine all ingredients for the Chipotle Mayo & blend until smooth. Taste & add more peppers or sauce if desired. Set mayo aside.
  • Keeping the rolls intact as much as possible, cut horizontally to separate the tops from the bottoms. Set the bottoms in the baking dish.
  • Layer half the Swiss on top of the roll bottoms in a single layer, not overlapping. Next, layer the Ham evenly across the rolls. Add the rest of the cheese in a single layer & finish with a layer of the sliced apple.
  • Spread about half of the Chipotle Mayo on the underside (cut side) of the roll tops before flipping them on top of the apple. Serve the other half with the sliders for dipping.
  • For the topping: melt the butter before mixing in the garlic powder & dried oregano. Pour & brush the butter all over the rolls.
  • Cover the entire dish with tin foil. Bake for 12 minutes, until the cheese has totally melted and the tops have browned.
  • Enjoy!
